Tyre pressure in UAE heat: what psi to run, and why
The right psi for UAE summer, why you shouldn't let air out, and sand pressures.
- Sedans
- 32–36 psi cold
- SUVs
- 33–36 psi cold
- Space-saver
- 60 psi
- Desert sand
- 15–18 psi
- Heat effect
- +1 psi per ~5 °C
- Check
- Every 2 weeks, cold
The short answer
Use the cold pressure on your car's door sticker — usually 32–36 psi for cars and crossovers — and check it in the morning before driving. Don't let air out because it's hot: pressure rises about 1 psi for every 5–6 °C, which the tyre is designed for. Underinflation, not overinflation, is what overheats tyres and causes summer blowouts on UAE highways.
Why pressure matters more in the Emirates
An underinflated tyre flexes more with every rotation, and flexing generates heat. On a summer afternoon, with road surfaces above 60 °C and traffic moving at 120 km/h, that heat can build until the tyre's structure fails. UAE police repeatedly name tyre blowouts as a leading summer accident cause, and the Interior Ministry recorded 65 accidents caused by blowouts between 2023 and 2025.
Measure cold, not hot
"Cold" means the car has been parked for three hours or driven less than 2 km. A tyre at 33 psi in a basement at 7 am might read 37 psi after an hour on the highway in August — that's normal. If you let air out to "correct" the hot reading, the tyre will be badly underinflated the next morning.
Recommended cold pressures
| Car | Front | Rear |
|---|---|---|
| Nissan Sunny | 32 psi | 32 psi |
| Toyota Corolla | 35 psi | 35 psi |
| Toyota Camry | 35 psi | 35 psi |
| Nissan Altima | 33 psi | 33 psi |
| Toyota RAV4 | 35 psi | 35 psi |
| Toyota Land Cruiser | 33 psi | 33 psi |
| Nissan Patrol | 35 psi | 35 psi |
| Tesla Model 3 / Y | 42 psi | 42 psi |
Values vary by trim and tyre size; your door placard is the final word.
psi, bar and kPa
1 bar = 14.5 psi = 100 kPa. So 2.3 bar is about 33 psi, and 2.5 bar is about 36 psi. European cars often list bar; Japanese and American cars list psi.
Desert pressures
For soft sand, drop to 15–18 psi to lengthen the footprint. Drive smoothly, avoid sharp turns that can pull the tyre off the bead, and reinflate before the highway. A portable compressor is essential.
Nitrogen
Nitrogen leaks a little more slowly than air and holds pressure more steadily through temperature swings. It's a modest benefit, not a substitute for checking. Mixing air and nitrogen is safe.
TPMS warning lights
A tyre pressure monitoring system warns when a tyre is roughly 25% below target. Common triggers in the UAE are a cold morning after a hot week, a slow puncture, or a failing sensor battery. If the light stays on after you've inflated correctly, the sensor may need replacing or relearning.

Common questions
Common questions
What tyre pressure should I use in summer in Dubai?
The cold pressure on your door placard, measured in the morning. Don't reduce it for heat.
Is 40 psi too high for a car?
For most sedans, yes — it reduces grip and comfort. Some EVs and loaded SUVs do specify around 40–42 psi.
How often should I check tyre pressure in the UAE?
Every two weeks and before long trips, always cold.
