When a tyre needs replacing rather than repairing

A puncture in the middle of the tread can usually be plugged. Everything else on this list means the tyre has to go:

• Tread at or below 1.6 mm. That is the legal minimum in the UAE, and in practice wet-road grip falls away well before it. We recommend replacing at 3 mm.
• Tyre older than five years from its DOT date. UAE rules treat tyres as expiring five years after manufacture, and Dubai heat ages rubber faster than European tables suggest. Check the four-digit code on the sidewall: 2321 means week 23 of 2021.
• Sidewall damage — a bulge, a cut, or cracking you can catch a fingernail in. Sidewalls flex with every rotation and cannot be safely repaired.
• Punctures larger than 6 mm, or within 25 mm of the shoulder.
• Driving flat. Even a few hundred metres on a deflated tyre can shred the inner liner, which is invisible from outside.

How mobile tyre replacement works

Send us a photo of the sidewall size code (for example 225/45 R17) on WhatsApp, or tell us the make, model and year. We reply with two or three options at different price points, all in stock in Dubai that day. Once you pick one, a van is dispatched with the tyres already loaded.

On site the technician lifts the car with a low-profile trolley jack — fine in basements with tight clearance — removes the wheels, breaks the bead on a tyre machine inside the van, fits the new tyres with fresh valves, and balances each wheel. Wheels go back on with a torque wrench, never just an impact gun, and pressures are set cold. You pay after the job, by card, cash, Tabby or Tamara.

Tyre replacement prices in Dubai

Fitting is a flat AED 100 per visit for up to four tyres on a standard car. Tyre prices depend on size and brand. Typical supply prices per tyre, fitted:

Economy brands we stock include Zeetex, Triangle and Roadstone; mid-range covers Hankook, Kumho, Yokohama and Toyo; premium means Michelin, Bridgestone, Continental, Pirelli and Goodyear. Run-flat and high-load SUV tyres sit at the top of each band.

Replacing two tyres or four

If only one tyre is damaged and the others have more than 4 mm of tread left, replacing a single tyre is fine on front- or rear-wheel-drive cars. On all-wheel-drive cars — Subaru, Audi quattro, BMW xDrive, most Range Rovers — the difference in rolling circumference can strain the centre differential, so we replace in pairs at minimum and often all four. New tyres always go on the rear axle when fitting a pair; it keeps the car stable if the rear loses grip in the wet.

Why UAE heat matters for new tyres

Road surfaces in Dubai pass 60 °C in July and August. Heat speeds up oxidation of the rubber compound and raises pressure by roughly 1 psi for every 5 °C. We set pressures cold, early in the day where possible, and we only supply tyres manufactured within the last 12 months — you will see the DOT code before we fit anything.
